The health system faces many challenges within a continuum of services that includes the health care system, prevention programs, health promotion and population health interventions. Innovation will play an important role in addressing these challenges.

Dr. Robert McMurtry is the Visiting Assistant Deputy Minister of the Population and Public Health Branch, Health Canada. Prior to joining Health Canada in 1999, Dr. McMurtry was a scientist, surgeon, administrator, and advisor to government.
